Installing IBM Directory Server 5.1

IBM Directory Server (IDS) requires preinstallation of DB2 Universal Database for AIX version 8.1 or  DB2 version 7.2 with FixPak 5 or higher is also supported. This installation was performed with DB2 version7.2 with fixpack 7 (installed via WEA SUM, choose only DB2 for installation). Also manually created the "wasinst" instance.

IDS requires a large amount of space on the "/usr" file system (i.e. from the AIX command prompt, type the command "chfs  -a  size='+11087916'  /usr", or whatever you want to change it to).

Once IDS is installed, web based information is available in "/usr/ldap/web/en_US" (i.e. "getting_started.html").

The SWD software currently exists on the WEA Test Department Server in the directory "/WEA/inst.images/SecureWay5.0" as a file "ids510-aix-ismp-us.tar", which must be untarred using the "tar" utility (i.e." tar -xvf ids510-aix-ismp-us.tar"), which has also already been done in that same directory, and the following instructions assume you are using this method.

(OR)

The IBM Directory Server (SWD) software can be obtained (using your IBM userid and password) using URL "http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/search.jsp?rs=ldap&go=y", and more documentation is available at "http://www-3.ibm.com/software/network/directory/library/".

1) The SWD installation instructions state you should run the command "xset  fp  default" from the AIX command prompt before performing the installation.

2) In the directory "/WEA/inst.images/SecureWay5.1/ids_ismp", from the AIX Command prompt, type "./setup" to execute the installation utility.

3) After several seconds the "IBM Directory Server 5.1" panel will appear querying you to select a language (the author selected "English"), then click "OK"

4) In the "Welcome to the Installation Wizard for IBM Directory Server 5.1", click "Next".

5) If you have already installed DB2 or other requisite software, the next panel will reflect this, click "Next".

6) In the "Select a language for the IBM Directory Server" panel, select "English", then click "Next"

8) In the "Select the features to install" panel, select the "Client SDK 5.1", "Web Administration 5.1", and "Server 5.1, then click "Next". (note the amount of space these options require and assure you have it available. If you dont, you must "Cancel" the installation, change your filespace, and restart the installation. You cannot change the space and continue from this point, going "Back" will return to the previous panel, but the installer does not know about your increased file size. The author changed the filespace using the command "chfs  -a  size='+11087916'  /usr", then restarted the installer).

9) The next panel will reflect where and what will be installed (typical display follows), click "Next".

IBM Directory Server 5.1 will be installed to the following directory:
/usr/ldap

The following features will be installed:

12) In the IBM Directory Server 5.1 GUI, a panel will appear requesting you read information on the Server Readme, do so if you want, then click "Next".

13) In the IBM Directory Server 5.1 GUI, a panel will appear stating "Installation is now complete. If you chose to install IBM Directory Server, note that a configuration tool has been launched.
