Acquire the software
From WEA Test Server
1) Ftp to any of the WEA Test AIX machines that have the /WEA disk mounted.
2) Change directories to "/WEA/inst.images/DSView/DSView.1.0.9.300", and get the file "DSView_1.0.9.300"
From Avocent Web Site
1) Go to "http://www.avocent.com/web/en.nsf/Content/RegistrationSplashPage", and for the email address enter "bosenba@us.ibm.com", then click "Submit".
2) At the botom of the page click the "Proceed to Download" link.
3) On the Downloads page page go to the bottom of the page and click "Previous Releases for All Software "
4) In the "DSView Software" table, click on the "DSView_1.0.9.300" link (sept 30,2002 release) and save it to a folder of my choice.
5) From Winders Explorer, scope to the folder in which you
downloaded the software and doubleclick ""DSView_1.0.9.300.exe")
Install The DSView Software
1) In the "DSView - InstallShield Wizard" window, click "Next".
2) In the "License Agreement" panel, read the ENTIRE license agreement (ignorance of the law is not a valid excuse!), click "I Accept..,yada, yada,", and click "Next".
3) In the "Destination Folder" accept the default and click "Next".
4) In the "Setup Type", select "Custom", the click "Next".
5) In the "Custom Setup", all features will be installed, click "Next".
6) In the "Ready to Select computer running DSAuthentication Server" panel, "Enter the computer name...", enter "DSRADMIN", then click "Next".
7) In the "Ready to Install the Program", click "Install". Go have a latte'.
8) In the "InstallShield Wizard Completed", click "Finish".
9) I your are told you must restart your computer, do so.
GO TO "Using DSView"
Using DSView
1) Double Click on the "DSView" icon on your desktop
2) In the "Enter Network Password" dialog box, use your username and password (obtained from Josh Dembling) (i.e. "shayden/shayden"), do not enter any value in the "Domain" field, then click "OK".
3) In the "DSView" window, doubleclick on "Topology".
4) In the "DSView" window, doubleclick on "TC6 Network".
5) In the "DSView" window, doubleclick on "INS Testing".
6) In the "DSView" window, doubleclick on "DSR21" (or see WEA Test Department AIX Machine Information for DSR connectivity to your machine).
7) Doubleclick on the machine you wish to connect to.
Aligning Your Mouse and Video
Once you have installed DSView and begin using it for access to remote AIX machines, you might have to adjust the mouse. This will become obvious when you try to use the mouse on a window and it is skewed. Follow the instructions below to align the mouse.
(note, in the following sections, you may need to (at a Unix window command prompt) enter the command "xset mouse 1 2", then click the mouse icon in the upper left corner of your DSView machine GUI to get the mouse aligned properly)
With AIX WEA 4.30 NIM Image
1) At the AIX Common Desktop Environment (CDE) desktop DSView GUI, click on the "Mouse Align and Vido Refresh" button (mouse icon) in the upper left corner.
2) If step 1 does not work, additionally click the "Auto Adjust
Video" button (just under the File option in the menu bar), and from the
menu bar select "Video", "Scaling", and click on "Auto Scale".
With Other NIM Images
1) From the AIX desktop, double click the Sytle Manager icon (on bottom of desktop, to the right of the printer icon).
2) In the Style Manager window, double click on "Mouse".
3) Using the slide bars, set "Acceleration" to 1 and "Threshold" to 2, then click "OK".
4) In the upper left corner of your window, click the "Mouse Align and Vido Refresh" button, then the "Auto Adjust Video" button (just under the File option in the menu bar).
5) From the menu bar select "Video", "Scaling", and click on "Auto Scale"
5) Resume normal operation.
Administration
of DSR
4) In the "User Name" field enter the name of your choice, then
click "Next".
5) In the "Organization" field enter "IBM".
6) In the "Registration Key" field enter the Software Key, values are "2OD3U R0UF1 UH6AJ MF9QP".
7) Select "Anyone who uses this computer", then click "Next".
